Celebrating 100 Years of Malcolm X

Malcolm Little who would later change his name to Malcolm X was born on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska – a city which less than a week ago elected its first Black mayor.

Malcolm X’s philosophy and organizing strategy evolved over time — even though media, too often, only speak of him as violent. That is why a blog post is not nearly enough room to tell his life story or do justice to his legacy. Instead, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth by sharing a few resources you can watch or read as you have time. And we do hope you will find the time.

Ibram X. Kendi – author of the international bestseller How to Be an Antiracist – returns to the meaning of Malcolm’s legacy in his newest book, Malcolm Lives. What does it reveal about where the US is now, and what still needs to be said about race in America?

The video above is mostly audio of one of his speeches with commentary on how that speech is relevant today.
