Education is under threat at the national level.
Closer to home, Governor Whitmer says, “We are doing everything we can to ensure every student has more of the resources they need to succeed, not less.” Although we know the Governor is doing her best to deal with all the bureaucracy, her education budget is less than what schools need to be healthy and healing. And we know some legislators will seek to make those amounts even less.
That’s why our elected officials in Lansing need to know that education matters to the people who put them there — people like YOU. Sharing YOUR story is the best way to help them understand how their decisions impact real students, real families and real community members.
We want to help you do just that! Along with the Michigan Education Justice Coalition (MEJC), we’ve put together materials to help you tell your story and link it to different parts of the state’s Education Budget. We’ve even made the handout you can leave with your legislator when you are done.
Odds are you won’t have to drive to Lansing to meet with them. Most legislators hold coffee hours or townhalls in their districts. The materials we’ve pulled together include tips on how to find these in-district events. And if those tips don’t work MEJC has designated one of their staff to help track down those hard to find legislators.
But we need you to commit to contacting your legislators by completing the form below. Once you do, you’ll get an email from us with links to everything you should need.
