Rally For Reform
Emergent Justice and the Justice for Mario Willis Team united during the June 25th Rally for Reform to spotlight Mario’s unjust conviction and the system’s failure in his case. As part of the Criminal Justice Reform Legislative Coalition, they humanized the issues, urging state legislators to take action on justice reform legislation.
Participatory Defense in Lansing
Our Participatory Defense HUB is working on the case of Mario Willis, a man wrongly convicted in 2010. Two members of his family, Maxine Willis and Calvin Hughes, joined our Director, Elisheva Johnson, in Lansing to share their story with elected officials. This was the first time in Lansing for these HUB members, but it won’t be their last!

2024 Capitol Day for Education Funding
On April 30, 2024, Emergent Justice joined other members of Michigan Education Justice Coalition in Lansing to call on the State to fully fund our schools. This event was the culmination of the Michigan Education Justice Coalition (MEJC) Advocacy Day to raise awareness of the state’s education funding gap and to call on legislators to pass the network’s budget recommendations.
TBOP Capitol Day
On April 24, 2024, Jackson, TBOP Team EJ Organizer, joined other members of the Taking Back Our Power Coalition in Lansing to talk with elected officials about our concerns at the way big corporate money interferes with Lansing taking action on what matters to us! 2022 Reproductive Justice for All Campaign
Working hard throughout the spring and early summer to educate about the Reproductive Justice for All ballot initiative and collect signatures to help get it onto the 2022 November ballot.
