Emergent Justice in Action

Emergent Justice and the Justice for Mario Willis Team united during the June 25th Rally for Reform to spotlight Mario’s unjust conviction and the system’s failure in his case. As part of the Criminal Justice Reform Legislative Coalition, they humanized the issues, urging state legislators to take action on justice reform legislation.

Our Participatory Defense HUB is working on the case of Mario Willis, a man wrongly convicted in 2010. Two members of his family, Maxine Willis and Calvin Hughes, joined our Director, Elisheva Johnson, in Lansing to share their story with elected officials. This was the first time in Lansing for these HUB members, but it won’t be their last!

Mario’s case is one of Emergent Justice’s Campaigns for Change. Find out more about this campaign.

Working hard throughout the spring and early summer to educate about the Reproductive Justice for All ballot initiative and collect signatures to help get it onto the 2022 November ballot.
